The search is on to find the Midlands’ top senior volunteer.
Home Instead Senior Care is again holding its annual Salute to Senior Service and is accepting nominations for outstanding senior volunteers.
“Seniors have so much to give and make a positive impact on our communities daily,” said Rene Kilburn, owner of the Home Instead Senior Care office serving the Midlands. “Senior volunteerism not only benefits others but also helps seniors stay active and socially engaged in their communities – important elements of healthy aging.”
Community members are asked to nominate seniors at least 65 years old who volunteer at least 15 hours a month. They are then asked to encourage co-workers, friends, family members and others to go to SalutetoSeniorService.com and vote for the nominee. Those receiving the most votes from each state will be featured on the Salute to Senior Service Wall of Fame.
The winner in each state will receive $500 and one national winner will receive $5,000 to donate to the charity of his choice.
To nominate someone, visit SalutetoSeniorService.com or call (803) 736-4242 to have a nomination form mailed. Completed nomination forms can be mailed to Salute to Senior Service, P.O. Box 285, Bellevue, NE 68005.
Nominations and votes will be accepted through March 1.
Historic Columbia seeks volunteers
Meeting new people, visiting historic sites and discovering the culture and lifestyles of Columbia and Richland County are just a few of the benefits Historic Columbia Foundation is promoting as it launches a new volunteer campaign.
The next volunteer training session will begin at 10 a.m. Feb. 10 and will include five weekly general introductory sessions. Additional training will be provided as new volunteers choose their role within the foundation. Volunteers are asked to donate six or more hours a month.
Last year, Historic Columbia volunteers provided more than 11,000 hours of service valued at $243,540.
“Our volunteers are a vital part of Historic Columbia, and they are the ones who make it possible to accomplish our goals year after year,” said Ann Posner, Historic Columbia volunteer manager.
For more information on volunteering, contact Posner at (803) 252-1770. ext. 24 or email firstname.lastname@example.org .
