Political group to hold immigration protest at I-26 overpass

The anti-immigration political group Americans for Legal Immigration will hold a protest in Columbia on Saturday as part of a series of demonstrations taking place nationwide this weekend.

The anti-immigration political group Americans for Legal Immigration will hold a protest in Columbia on Saturday as part of a series of demonstrations taking place nationwide this weekend.

The Columbia protest is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the St. Andrews Road overpass on I-26.

The protests are a reaction to a recent crisis at the Mexico border where more than 50,000 Central American youth have entered the country illegally.

The group says the federal government is illegally bringing the youth to various states and housing them.

Gov. Nikki Haley announced Thursday that none of the youth are being sheltered in S.C. facilities.
