Study: New jets no louder than old ones
A study says the new jets being stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort are no louder than the jets now at the base.
The study released by the F-35 Joint Program Office said the new F-35B jets being stationed in Beaufort are slightly louder than the F/A-18 jets now at the base during takeoff, The Island Packet of Hilton Head reported. But the new jets are significantly quieter during approaches for landings.
The tests were conducted in California last year.
Never miss a local story.
Training in the new jets is scheduled to start in Beaufort this month.
Jim Wegmann with the Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce says the study should reassure local homeowners.
