Former S.C. education superintendent Inez Tenenbaum told The State she is backing former Clinton administration education official Frank Holleman to be the state's next education chief.
Holleman, of Greenville, is facing Tom Thompson, a dean at S.C. State University who lives in Forest Acres, in the June 8 Democratic primary.
"(Holleman) was (former U.S. Education Secretary) Dick Riley's chief of staff. He's a bright candidate who I think would do a wonderful job," said Tenenbaum, who was in Columbia on Thursday.
Tenenbaum is serving in the Obama administration as head of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. She served as the state's education chief from 1998 to 2006.
