Gov. Nikki Haley’s chief of staff says in a letter that the state treasurer isn’t a relevant player in budget discussions.
The letter written by Haley chief of staff Tim Pearson on Friday comes after Treasurer Curtis Loftis on Thursday asked the governor to provide details about a meeting with the House and Senate budget committee chairmen.
Loftis in a prepared statement issued Friday thanked the governor’s office for responding to his request for information.
Pearson wrote his counterpart in Loftis’ office that Haley plans to continue meeting with budget writers and legislators and Loftis is not a relevant player in those issues.
Pearson also said the treasurer’s office shouldn’t run to the media about meetings before asking the governor about them.
