The S.C. House today rejected a measure backed by Gov. Nikki Haley to eliminate $1.9 million from the state budget for the state Arts Commission.
The House also rejected a compromise bill offered by state Rep. Jim Harrison, R-Richland, to eliminate most Arts Commission jobs and move its two remaining grant-writing jobs under the state Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism.
Harrison said Haley would move to eliminate all money for the arts in the state budget, adding his proposal was a compromise between House members and Haley. House members disagreed, voting down Harrison's measure.
