Former U.S. Sen. Ernest "Fritz" Hollnigs, former Gov. Dick Riley, a pallbearer from South Carolina and others were asked by The State to share their memories from the assassination of President John Kennedy that happened 50 years ago next week.
Hollings recalled waiting hours to get into the Capitol to see Kennedy's coffin.
“We walked all night long, six abreast, frozen until six o’clock that morning,” he said. “Six abreast, I’ll never forget it. We were all huddled together trying to keep warm.”
