State Treasurer Curtis Loftis is trying to give away $400 million -- and you could already be a winner!
Seriously, the treasurer's office operates something called the "unclaimed property fund." We have written about this before. Most of the money is from life insurance policies where insurance companies could not locate the rightful heirs. But it also includes things like unclaimed stock.
The money goes into an account at the Treasurer's Office, and you can search this website to see if any of the money is yours.
And now there is more money than ever:
We now have the most unclaimed $$ ever for claiming--$400.2 MILLION--and we're uploading more! See if you're owed $$ http://t.co/ou7GCARLBt— Curtis Loftis (@TreasurerLoftis) November 18, 2013
We would check ourselves, but we're waiting until the fund reaches at least $500 million.
