S.C. schools chief Mick Zais will speak at the National School Choice Week's "whistle-stop train" tour on Thursday in Columbia.
Columbia is the fifth stop out of 14 official and 5,000 independently planned events across the country to raise awareness about school-choice options -- including public, charter, magnet and private schools as well as online and home-school learning.
The event will take place at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at 701 Whaley Street.
Other speakers include Ellen Weaver, president of the Palmetto Policy Forum; Jonathan Alston, a former USC Gamecock and NFL football player; Andrew Campanella, president of National School Choice Week; Victoria Dixon-Mokeba, principal of Carolina School for Inquiry; and Beth Purcell, president of Public School Options.
Never miss a local story.
The event will include performances by students from Carolina Springs Elementary School and Provost Academy.
