BUZZ: Lindsey Graham headlines list of West Forum events this Spring

U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, running for reelection in November, headlines the list of events this Spring sponsored by the John C. West Forum on Politics and Policy at Winthrop University.

Graham is scheduled to discuss education on Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. at Dina's Place in the DiGiorgio Campus Center.

The West Forum , named after former S.C. Gov. John C. West, is "dedicated to promoting civic engagement in South Carolina."

It Happened on the Way to the War WHAT: Mr Rye Barcott will present his experience in the Marine Corps in Iraq, Bosnia and Horn of Africa as well as starting a non-profit organization in Kibera, Kenya. WHEN: 11 am, Jan. 30, Dina's Place, DiGiorgio Center. Women in Leadership in the US Military WHAT: Rear Admiral Sandra Stosz, Superintendent of the US Coast Guard Academy, will discuss women in leadership in the military. WHEN: 11 am, Feb. 6, Dina's Place, DiGiorgio Center. South Carolina Voting Rights WHAT: Ms Vickie Middleton, Executive Director of the South Carolina ACLU will discuss the history of the Voting Rights Act in South Carolina. WHEN: 11 am, Feb. 13, location TBD. Genes, Behavior and Politics WHAT: Dr John Hibbing will discuss his research on gene’s role in political decision-making. WHEN: 11 am, Feb. 27, Dina's Place, DiGiorgio Center. A look Inside the South Carolina GOP Primary WHAT: Dr Scott Huffmon will discuss the latest results of the Winthrop Poll. WHEN: 11 am, April 10, Owens G01.

Breast Confusion WHAT: Dr Michael Lipscomb will discuss breastfeeding and the breast in contemporary political culture. WHEN: 11 am, March 6, Owens G02. Breast Cancer WHAT: Ms. Tania Katan, author, playwright, and performer will hold a performance about her experience with breast cancer. WHEN: 11 am, March 13, Johnson Theater. The Politics of the Pink Ribbon WHAT: Dr Marilyn Sarow and Dr Karen Kedrowski will discuss breast cancer and the politics of the pink ribbon campaign. WHEN: 11 am, March 25, Owens G02. The Mineola Twins: A Comedy in Six Scenes, Four Dreams and (at least) Six Wigs WHAT: Directed by Dr Laura Dougherty WHEN: 8 pm, April 9-12, 2 pm April 13, Johnson Theatre $8 with Winthrop ID/$15 general public.
