STATE HOUSE: House bill banning abortions at 20 weeks gets hearing

COLUMBIA — A House panel heard testimony Thursday on a bill that would ban abortion at 20 weeks of pregnancy and later, providing an exception only when an abortion is necessary to save the woman’s life.

State Rep. Wendy Nanney, R-Greenville, is sponsoring the bill because she believes fetuses can feel pain at 20 weeks, she said.

A House Judiciary subcommittee decided to postpone a vote on the bill until after the House returns from its furlough next week.
