Gov. Nikki Haley canceled a re-election fundraiser scheduled in Houston last weekend so she could monitor emergency response after a winter storm crippled much of the state, her campaign said.
Haley also was slated to be the keynote speaker that the India House Gala in a Houston suburb.
She sent a video message to the group apologizing for her absence because of the storm while wearing a jacket with the S.C. Emergency Management Division logo and a Red Cross pin.
"In spirit, Michael and I are there," Haley said referring to her husband in the video uploaded on YouTube.
The governor had fundraiser at the India House on Sept. 21. She raised nearly $170,000 in contributions from Texas donors from the date of the event through Sept. 30, according to state ethics records.
