South Carolina’s 58,000 state employees would get a 1.5 percent raise under a House budget proposal.
The proposal set aside nearly $23 million to pay for the raises. But that money only affects the state’s 27,500 employees who are paid from the state’s general fund.
Lawmakers did not give money for the 28,842 state workers who are paid from federal or other funds. Those employees would still get raises, but their agencies will have to find the money to do it.
