The State House was evacuated for about 15 minutes Wednesday after a fire alarm sounded.
Initial reports was that something wrong with an air handler led to the alarm but did not cause any other problems, authorities said.
House Speaker Bobby Harrell, R-Charleston, stood on the atop the stairs of the north side of State House with dozens of staffers and lobbyists on a chilly afternoon.
But many House and Senate members did not leave, and the Senate resumed its session as soon as people were allowed back inside the historic building.
Gov. Nikki Haley had a little fun with the alarm.
Fire alarm just went off in the Statehouse. I wonder if it was a Senator who pulled it to avoid debate on Obamacare? #wouldntbesurprised— Nikki Haley (@nikkihaley) March 5, 2014
