U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, R-Springdale, is announcing his campaign for re-election today with appearances at the grand openings of two campaign offices in South Carolina's 2nd District.
Seeking his eighth term in the U.S. House, Wilson faces Eddie McCain of Leesville in June's GOP primary. Democrats Phil Black of Lexington and Ed Greenleaf of Columbia also have filed for the seat, as has Harold Geddings of Gaston, who is running as a Labor Party candidate.
Wilson's campaign offices are located at 1710-B Sunset Blvd. in West Columbia, where he appeared Monday morning, and at 681 Silver Bluff Road, Suite 101, in Aiken, where he will appear at 1 p.m.
Wilson was first elected to the U.S. House in a 2001 special election to fill the vacancy left when Republican Floyd Spence died.
Before being elected to Congress, Wilson was a S.C. senator for 17 years and was chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee.
Wilson now is a member of the U.S. House Committee on Education and Workforce, the Committee of Foreign Affairs and the Armed Services Committee where he is chairman of the subcommittee on Military Personnel.
