Happening today: U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham and U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson will hold a press conference outside the Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Columbia at 3 p.m. Their appearance comes amid news reports of long waits for treatment covered up by falsified patient appointment logs at VA hospitals across the country. ... Gov. Nikki Haley will address the 2014 Department of South Carolina Military Order of the Purple Heart State Convention at 9:30 a.m., Marriott Columbia, 1200 Hampton Street. ... Then at 11 a.m., Haley will participate in the dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for the Mission Ridge Leadership Training Institute, Mission Ridge, 601 South Congress Street in Winnsboro. ... The S.C. Commission on Higher Education is holding a public hearing in North Charleston on whether to grant Infilaw System a license to operate the private Charleston School of Law ahead of a pending sale. The hearing is 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Trident Technical College, Nursing Auditorium Building 970, 7000 Rivers Ave. in North Charleston.

U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham had a big news day, asking for a Senate panel to investigate Benghazi , and picking up endorsements from a national 'right-to-life' group and its S.C. affiliate. Graham and his challengers also are scheduled to appear in a May 30 Palmetto Family Council town hall meeting in Columbia.

Rep. Mia McLeod, D-Richland, faces one Democratic challenger on June 10.

The Senate rejected, then OK'd a raise for themselves to cover in-district expenses during budget negotiations late Wednesday.

ICYMI: Watch out! S.C. lawmakers sure do like their guns.

State Rep. Beth Bernstein spent a day this week at Fort Jackson and got some training in on a sniper rifle. The Richland Democrat wrote on her Facebook page that she hit her target from a mile away. (That was before Bernstein busted her head on a tank and needed stitches, she said.)
