Several lawmakers endorsed Molly Spearman for state superintendent of education on Tuesday.
Those Republican legislators from rural areas of the state were: Sen. Billy O’Dell of Abbeville, Sen. Larry Martin of Pickens, Sen. Ronnie Cromer of Newberry and Rep. Ralph Shealy Kennedy of Lexington.
“I have known Molly Spearman for many years,” Martin said in a news release issued by Spearman's campaign. “As Superintendent of Education, she would be a strong advocate for the needs of rural districts like mine. She has seen first-hand the challenges of rural schools face and is prepared to address them head on.”
Rep. Kennedy is a former Lexington County School Board member.
"I fought and won against the ACLU to protect our student’s right to pray before football games,” Kennedy said. “I am proud to support Molly Spearman as our next Superintendent of Education because I know, even when the pressure is on, she will continue to stand up for the rights of the parents and students.”
Spearman is one of eight Republican candidates in the June 10 primary for superintendent of education.
