U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan, R-Laurens, endorsed Sally Atwater of Charleston in the runoff for the Republican superintendent of education race.
“Sally Atwater is not part of the education bureaucracy in Columbia,” Duncan said in a news release from Atwater’s campaign. “She is a special needs teacher who will bring a fresh face to Columbia and provide a strong voice for the children of South Carolina.”
Duncan previously served in the S.C. legislature.
Later Monday, LIFEPAC, the political action committee for pro-life group South Carolina Citizens for Life, also endorsed Atwater.
“We appreciate your 100 percent pro-life survey, and your background as a teacher of children with special needs,” Joe Rumler, chairman of the PAC, said in a release from Atwater’s campaign. “Your work and beliefs honor the intrinsic value of human life from conception to natural death.”
Atwater will face Molly Spearman, of Saluda, on June 24. The winner will face the Democratic nominee in November.
