Former state Treasurer Thomas Ravenel said he will submit signatures in his petition bid for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican Lindsey Graham on Monday.
Petition signatures are due to the S.C. Election Commission by Tuesday. The Charleston developer and star of the reality show "Southern Charm" needs 10,000 signatures from registered S.C. voters to get on the November ballot with Graham and Democratic state Sen. Brad Hutto in November.
His campaign did not say Friday how many signatures it collected except that Ravenel has more than enough to qualify for the ballot.
Ravenel, who left state office in 2007 after he pleaded guilty to cocaine charges, filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission this week for his Senate run. He ran for the U.S. Senate in 2004 and finished in the Republican primary.
A poll released Friday showed Graham with a 49 percent-30 percent lead over Hutto with 10 percent of voters preferring other unnamed candidates.
