• A proposed change to the state’s science standard for teaching evolution –– OK'd by education leaders Tuesday and sent to two S.C. education boards for a final approval –– will not allow a teacher to lecture on creationism , said state Sen. Mike Fair, R-Greenville.
• South Carolina’s main gay-rights group plans to start a petition drive Wednesday asking Attorney General Alan Wilson to stop fighting challenges to the state’s constitutional ban on same-sex marriage in the wake of a federal appeals court ruling.
• Gov. Nikki Haley and Atlantic Beach officials remain at a standoff regarding the future of Atlantic Beach Memorial Day Bikefest after a meeting Tuesday morning.
