Candidates for governor to debate
Gov. Nikki Haley has agreed to take part in two televised debates to which all five candidates for governor have been invited, according to the (Charleston) Post and Courier.
The two debates – in Charleston and the Greenville-Spartanburg area on Oct. 14 and Oct. 21, respectively – are being sponsored by the newspaper and three TV stations.
Also invited were Democratic state Sen. Vincent Sheheen, petition candidate Tom Ervin, Libertarian Steve French and United Citizens candidate Morgan Bruce Reeves.
Sheheen’s campaign said the senator would like to participate in both debates, but the Oct. 21 date conflicts with another debate proposed at the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce.
Ervin has agreed to both debates.
The Oct. 14 debate will focus on jobs, the economy and growth. The Oct. 21 debate will focus on education and health care.
Both debates will be broadcast live on television and available online.
