A Fountain Inn man was charged with murder after deputies said he fatally shot a man during an altercation early Saturday, according to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.
Diderikcous Jacobi Hill, 36, of 214 Fountain Inn Drive, was charged with one count of murder and one count of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, warrants show.
Deputies received a call at 2:55 a.m. Saturday about a gunshot victim, but could not find a victim when police arrived on scene,Sgt. Ryan Flood of the Sheriff's Office said. Deputies, however, did find evidence of a shooting, Flood said.
During the investigation, deputies learned Hill and another man had an altercation, Flood said. Hill then pulled out a handgun and opened fire, killing the man, Flood said.
James Calvin Hill, 48, of Williams Circle in Simpsonville, was identified as the victim, the Greenville County Coroner's Office reported. He was found about 7:15 a.m. Saturday in a ditch near Burdette Road in Simpsonville, The News reported. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head, the Coroner's Office said.
Authorities say the shooting is believed to have occurred in Fountain Inn.
"The defendant committed this offense without justification and malice aforethought," the warrants state.
Diderikcous Hill was taken to the Greenville County Detention Center. He is being held without bond.
