A Greer man said an act of kindness led to his $1 million lottery win.
The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, said he gave a woman outside the QuikTrip on Woodruff Road his leftover cash after buying a bottle of water and a Powerball ticket.
“The blessing came back to me,” he told state lottery officials Tuesday.
The winner also told officials that he had originally asked for a Mega Millions ticket but that the clerk gave him Powerball instead.
His numbers (6, 33, 34, 58, 59 and PB: 12) wound up being a match for the May 28 drawing.
The man said he and his wife aren't going to retire, "but our kids will go wherever they want to college."
The odds of winning $1 million playing Powerball are about 1 in 11.6 million, lottery officials said.
For selling the claimed ticket, QuikTrip #1134 in Greenville received a commission of $10,000.
