Where's your favorite S.C. place to stand?

We are not averse to stealing ideas, especially good ones such as stoodthere.com.

The creators of that Web site nominated 100 wondrous, inspiring, or thought-provoking locations in the world, Europe, the United Kingdom and the U.S. They asked people to vote to rank the places and to submit a picture of them standing in that spot if they had one.

The top 10 in the U.S. after a few weeks of voting included man-made icons - the Statue of Liberty, the Alamo and the Hoover Dam - and natural wonders - the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls and Waimea Canyon in Hawaii.

The only South Carolina spot on the list is Fort Sumter, originally ranked in the mid-20s by the Web site creators but slipping into the 50s as the public votes are tallied.

With the name The State, we want to put a more provincial spin on stoodthere.com. Here's a list of 10 great places to visit in South Carolina. Vote here for your favorite.
