What officials say needs to happen to lessen crime that spills out of North Columbia’s most dangerous apartment complexes and into neighborhoods

• A safety and security plan for each complex. The city would mandate measures such as fencing or security guards if needed.

• A renewed commitment to community policing by the Columbia Police Department

• Better cooperation between the Columbia Police Department and apartment managers and residents

• Security requirements for apartments that accept federal housing vouchers and money to assist in security measures

• Tighter lease requirements for tenants, regarding behavior, and monitoring by managers

• Clearing underbrush and keeping streets clean
