New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie apologized for the traffic jam that his staff intentionally caused last September, and Gov. Nikki Haley praised him for his leadership.
When first asked about the lane closures, Christie was dismissive and ridiculed reporters. He still claims there might have been a traffic study, and I think that is possibly an intentional misstatement, because if there were a traffic study there also would be a paper trail and he would have produced the evidence.
Christie looked and sounded as if he were on the witness stand pleading to a judge who would determine his future. He was penitent, but never apologized for not addressing the incident until it threatened him; nor did he apologize to the thousands who were stranded in traffic because some members of his staff were petty and vindictive.
This was not an example of leadership, but an exhibition of a politician fighting for his political life.
