Sunday letters: Bull Street would be a catalyst

I’ve been a resident of Columbia for almost 10 years. Had I not gotten a job here right out of school, I most likely would have moved away. Even a few years into my employment, I was ready to start looking for a job elsewhere. I was not impressed by what Columbia had to offer young professionals and, more specifically, me.

The snowball effect that could follow Bull Street project makes Columbia attractive. I want to live in a place where people want to come, live, spend their money, etc. I often go to Myrtle Beach or Charlotte for my major shopping, and I would like to spend my dollars here instead.

I think it takes one person to do what Hughes Development is doing — break through the envelope — and others will follow. I want to live in a great city, and I want my children to do the same. This development isn’t for the 50-plus members of our community, it’s for us.
