Monday letters: Anti-union stance bad leadership

Gov. Nikki Haley’s statement that she would discourage companies with union employees from locating to South Carolina is difficult to understand. Those manufacturing jobs have a multiplier effect that would create a need for other jobs that would not be necessarily union.

Any manufacturing plant — union or not — would create a need for services and generate a higher tax base for its community. No matter what your opinion of unions might be, I think we can all admit that those would be beneficial in many parts of our great state. To tell any corporation that might want to bring jobs to one of our more economically depressed areas that it is not welcome for political reasons would be leadership at its worst.
