Sunday letters: Monuments on State House grounds tell SC history

Many of the monuments on the State House grounds, including the State House itself, have some connection with slavery and/or the Jim Crow era in South Carolina. No doubt the subject matter makes many people uncomfortable, but erasing evidence of the past doesn’t erase the past. These monuments are merely a reminder of a different time and, most importantly, a very different place in S.C. history.
