Friday letters: Obama errs in celebrating law

A drum is just an empty cylindrical container that when heartily beaten resounds with a very loud, attention-getting noise. Such is our president’s chest-thumping and boasting of 7.1 million subscribers who did nothing more heroic than obey the law of the land, by submitting to the mandated Affordable Care Act. Buy this insurance now, or your government will fine you.

The presidential fanfare over citizens bowing their heads in submission to the control of their government may be cause for celebration among the currently ruling statists and progressives, but what is truly being celebrated by the Democratic Party is their wresting of control of over more of our nation’s economy from the hands of the very people who went into voting booths and pulled the levers that gave them that power in the first place.

On April 15, tens of millions of U.S. taxpayers flocked to the nation’s post offices to send off their taxes and dutifully “enroll” in the financing of America once again to avoid the penalties for tardiness, but I doubt if our president took a victory lap around the White House for that mandated act of compliance.
