Friday letters: Obama doesn’t care about veterans

Recently my husband and I went to the commissary at Fort Jackson. The car in front of us had a bumper sticker that said “Veterans for Obama.” I am so glad that we were not going to the same area of the base, because I would have had to ask the gentleman if his sticker was a joke.

The only interest I have seen from President Obama concerning veterans is how much he can cut benefits and balance the budget on the backs of the military — active duty and retired. After reading Doyle McManus’ June 2 column (“VA scandal fits Obama pattern”), it seems the president only realizes the problems the same way we do: via television or newspapers.

Our military are heroes. They risk their lives for little pay and promises that have little merit. I believe that other countries take notice of the lack of awareness our commander in chief demonstrates.
