Gov. Nikki Haley and her legislative cohorts take great pride in refusing federal dollars that would benefit the most vulnerable of our citizens — our children, the poor, ill and disabled. Knowing that our tax dollars are going to other states causes them no concern.
Their election campaigns are focused on the promise of keeping Washington out of our business and out of our state. Yet federal dollars for deepening the port of Charleston are eagerly accepted, even solicited. Where is the logic in that?
In truth, it is not about logic at all. It is about priorities — priorities that value possible economic advantage over moral responsibility.
