Sunday letters: Some can’t get over Obama’s race

I believe letter writer Joe Stankovics will find his “lost” respect for the presidency when Barack Obama leaves the White House (“Presidency no longer respected,” July 13).

You see, his respect isn’t really lost but just buried. It can be found in that dark hole of denial — denying the legitimacy of the one elected to the office — where a number of other voters’ respect can be found. It’s wrapped in the disbelief that a person of color can actually be the president.

Yes, Virginia, it’s true that this president is actually a person of color, and history will prove that President Obama is the first, but (get ready to lose your respect again) he will not be the last.
