I can hear members of the S.C. Republican Party laughing from here. They read your Nov. 7 editorial (“Haley has opportunity to move S.C. forward”) in which you stated “Mrs. Haley wasn’t our choice to be governor. But she is our governor. And … she is your governor too. That means every one of us has a stake in her success in her second term — and an obligation to help her succeed.”
I thought it was written by a Republican Party flack.
The Republican Party has no interest in supporting anyone other than its candidates and its view points; it has no interest in being part of what used to be called the loyal opposition.
If the recent election results were reversed, Republicans would believe they have no obligation to help the Democratic Party — and the country as a whole — succeed, regardless of the elected position. Witness their continuing efforts to overturn the Affordable Care Act, even after their efforts failed more than 50 times in Congress.
