I once heard the minister Myles Munroe say that when the purpose of an object is not known, abuse is inevitable. For instance, if you use an iPad as a hammer, you have misused it and abused it, and the result will not be good.
The best way to understand the correct use of a product is to consult the manual, which outlines in great detail how to get the best use of it.
We are investing tons of energy and resources in defining who can be married, but very little effort has been given to considering why marriage exists in the first place.
We are made in the image of God, which makes him by creative right our manufacturer. Our manufacturer also has a manual, which is the Bible. In the first chapter of our manual ,subsections 26-28, we find that our creator made us male and female.
Now biologically speaking, we know that the male comes with certain equipment that is only compatible with the female. This compatibility allows for the creation of children, which then makes a family when the male and female are joined together before God in a covenant (Proverbs 2:16-17, Malachi 2:14). Later on in the manual under the section called Ephesians, subsection 5, we see a clear comparison between our king and his bride to the covenant union between the man and woman.
In either case, the marriage was meant to be a direct reflection of the manufacturer. Anything else is a misuse of the product.
If the iPad has been found to be defective, you can always return it to the manufacturer to be repaired; Apple does this to protect its name. In like manner, our manufacturer is always willing to fix all of his products that have been deemed defective. He does this to protect his name.
