Able SC has been working for 20 years to empower people with disabilities to reach their highest level of independence, and last month we held a fundraiser and awards presentation. In between socializing and bidding on auction items, awards were presented to seven members of the community.
The adaptable award was presented to W.C. Hoecke and his son Karl Hoecke for promoting community education on disability rights. The reliable award went to volunteer Michael Walter for his dedication and hard work to Able SC. The creatable award was presented to Keith Bogart of Zero Gravity for their exceptional work with the “What You Should Know About” video series. The respectable award was presented to the COMET for its efforts to improve public transportation for people with disabilities.
Derrick Means and I received the commendable award for exceptional work promoting leadership for youth with disabilities. Getting this award let me know my hard work as a young adult leader had paid off.
