Sometimes we fail to notice the huge impact teachers can have on our lives and our community. Last week, an amazing hero raised her head.
We attended the Crossroads Middle School Orchestra’s Christmas concert. The sixth-grade music teacher, Carol Murray, led a group of aspiring musicians through a series of instrumental music that was truly inspiring. These young people clearly were not forced into this; they were excited, thrilled and trying their hearts out.
It could not have been better if it had included a solo by Yo-Yo Ma. Disciplined, organized, practiced young musicians gave a performance that aroused the souls of everyone in attendance.
In this age of video games, pop culture and general discontent, it was refreshing to see such hard work put into a traditional form of art and entertainment. My thanks go out to all the participants.
And my heart goes out to Ms. Murray and the countless thousands like her who go through their lives inspiring others, not for a paycheck but to make our world a better place.
