Gov. Nikki Haley is embarrassing the citizens of South Carolina by entering a lawsuit against President Obama’s executive order on immigration.
Walhalla has quite a few immigrants; the more recent are Hispanics. The only folks living here who are not immigrants are the descendants of Native Americans.
The hard-working Hispanics have been welcomed here, for their labor is needed. The schools have hired ESL teachers, the youth participate and excel in learning and sports. Soccer has become the sport of choice.
Hispanics are adding to the Walhalla economy. Once empty buildings house grocery stores, restaurants and fast food places. A most sought after restaurant is Puerto Nuevo, drawing customers from miles around. Residential neighborhoods are benefiting from the labors of painters, landscapers, movers, plumbers and electricians.
South Carolina should not be a party to any such lawsuit. The act is an embarrassment to all our citizens. The United States is populated with many races. The frivolous lawsuit will result in time, effort and our money spent without reason, just as the Benghazi hearings were and the attempts to repeal Obamacare are.
