My daughter and I decided to try to find the Christmas feeling in our own community this past season.
We watched the Vets’ Christmas Charity Ride one Sunday afternoon and were so impressed with the thousands of motorcyclists who participated. On another day, we were driving down Main Street and saw the words “It’s A Wonderful Life” on the marquee of The Nickelodeon. We found out when it would be showing and were able to buy our tickets online (which I am glad we did, since when we arrived it was sold out). Seeing a classic Christmas movie in black and white on the big screen was a major holiday treat. We hope the showing of this film becomes an annual event.
Lastly, we took all of the Christmas cookies we baked to the Oliver Gospel Mission and donated them. The staff was very appreciative, and it felt good to know that they might add a little something to someone’s dinner that night.
I am happy to say we did find the Christmas in Columbia, through the Vets’ charity ride, some cookies and an old movie.
Never miss a local story.
