Teachers are underpaid, overworked and don’t even have proper funding for school supplies. But the governor wants to just give them a handgun?
None of the educators I know thinks this is a good idea. The most common response is, “If I wanted to have a gun at work I would have joined the military or became a police officer.”
With South Carolina in the bottom of the nation in education I was already considering home schooling my soon-to-be 4 year old; if the state arms our teachers, that will seal the deal for me.
This is not the right way to combat this issue, and I think deep down Gov. Henry McMaster knows it. He needs to do better for our children.
The State publishes a cross section of the letters we receive from South Carolinians in order to provide a forum for our community and also to allow our community to get a good look at itself, for good or bad. The letters represent the views of the letter writers, not necessarily of The State.
