Summer brings a number of holidays focused on remembrance, including Memorial Day, Flag Day and Independence Day. Throughout the season, there will be countless tributes and opportunities to remember.
But remembering doesn’t have to stop there. Social networking sites, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram, provide virtual spaces for remembrance. Online memorials remind us that remembrance need not be confined to one specific day, but now can be more fully incorporated into daily life. In this way, digital remembrance supplements the broader, real-world commemoration that takes place on special days. Virtual memorials allow us to remember every day.
