Democrats reveal convention delegates, head to Denver

South Carolina will send 61 delegates to the Democratic National Convention in August. The candidates running for president earned delegates needed to win the nomination during the state’s January presidential primary, won by U.S. Sen. Barack Obama.

These S.C. Democrats will officially pledge the delegates each candidate earned in South Carolina. at the convention. The state also has eight “superdelegates” who can support the candidate of their choosing. Here’s a list of the local Democratic delegates who will be going out west this summer and the S.C. superdelegates.

For Obama

Obama earned 25 delegates from South Carolina. Ten Democrats from Richland, Lexington and Kershaw will be among those pledging delegates to Obama.

For Edwards

John Edwards won eight S.C. delegates. Three local Democrats will be among those pledging delegates to Edwards.

John Moylan, 47, Columbia

For Clinton

Hillary Clinton won 12 S.C. delegates. Four local Democrats will be among those pledging delegates to Clinton.

Superdelegates

These delegates are part of the more than 700 party operatives and elected officials nationally — eight from South Carolina — who can choose for themselves which candidates to support.

U.S. House Majority Whip James Clyburn, 57, Columbia, uncommitted

State party chairwoman Carol Fowler, 63, Columbia, supports Obama
