Wine Down Wednesdays will become a permanent fixture in Columbia’s Five Points, adding to shoppers’ opportunity for weeknight spending and socializing.
Originally designed to boost slow summer spending, the event quickly gained popularity, said Amy Beth Franks, executive director of the Five Points Association. The organization decided to extend the event into the fall.
Wine Down Wednesdays adds to two other similar events that are gaining popularity in Columbia: First Thursdays on Main, and Third Thursdays in the Vista.

The bad news is Lizard’s Thicket on Beltline Boulevard is closing Aug. 3. The good news is it will reopen several weeks later after renovations.
