Frequently asked questions
Q: Where do I get a bumper sticker?
A: On Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016, bumper stickers that say “Gamecock State of Mind thestate.com” will be delivered to home-delivery customers of The State. The bumper stickers will be found inside the Sunday, August 28 newspaper.
Q: What if I am not a home-delivery customer? Can I still participate?
A: Beginning on Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, bumper stickers may be picked up from 1401 Shop Road, Columbia, S.C., during normal business hours (while supplies last).
Q: What if I am a home-delivery customer, but my family member would also like a sticker for their car?
A: If a home-delivery customer does not receive a bumper sticker inside their newspaper, or if they have a second car they would like to put a sticker on, they may pick up a bumper sticker at 1401 Shop Road (while supplies last).
Q: If I come to The State at 1401 Shop Road to pick up a bumper sticker, is there a charge?
A: There is no charge to pick up the bumper sticker. Bumper stickers are available while supplies last.
Q: How many bumper stickers can I have?
A: For all requests: Limit one (1) bumper sticker per person per vehicle for the entire sweepstakes period, regardless of method of obtaining bumper sticker.
Q: When is the best time to pick up a bumper sticker at The State?
A: The best time to pick up a bumper sticker is 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Q: How do I enter the contest?
A: Obtain a bumper sticker. The bumper sticker is to be placed on the bumper or rear window of your own South Carolina-registered vehicle. By placing a bumper sticker on your own vehicle, you are giving permission for thestate.com to display your license plate number on thestate.com. It is against contest rules to place a bumper sticker on any vehicle that does not belong to you. Then, get spotted by an official representative of the The State. The State representatives will look for bumper stickers within The State’s delivery area from Sept. 1 through Nov. 30, 2016.
Q: What will I win if you spot the bumper sticker on my vehicle and my license plate number is drawn?
A: $50 cash or more.
Q: How do I know if I won?
A: Winners will be notified only by having their license plate displayed on thestate.com. Entrants must monitor thestate.com for their license plate; The State will not contact winner directly.
On or about the dates below, there will be a random drawing of all spotted bumper sticker license plate numbers (not including previous winners). One winner is drawn per week. The winning license plate will be displayed on thestate.com. The owner of that vehicle is the winner for that week. Should no owner contact The State before the next drawing date, the prize will be added to the following week’s prize.
2016 drawing dates: Sept. 8, 15, 22, 29; Oct. 6, 13, 20, 27; Nov. 3, 10, 17, 30.
Q: If my license plate is displayed on thestate.com, how long do I have to claim my prize?
A: Each week, the winner will be required to respond (as directed) within seven (7) days of the drawing date. Failure to respond timely to notification will result in forfeiture of the prize, and prize will be added to the next week’s prize.
Q: If I win, do I have to sign anything?
A: Winners will be given an affidavit of eligibility/liability/publicity release (“Release”) to sign.
Q: If I win, how do I claim my prize?
A: The owner of the South Carolina license plate that is displayed on thestate.com should email the marketing department at The State Media Company at email@example.com before the next drawing date. The State will not contact winners.
