"Funeral" | Mr. Israel Brooks Jr. was honored and remembered for his service as the first African-American to work for the S.C. State Highway Patrol and later earned the rank of U.S. Marshal. Brooks was buried at Broad River Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, following a service at St. John Baptist Church in Columbia.
