Bluffton golfers Brian Langley, J.D. Hoft advance to S.C. Amateur Match Play quarterfinals

A pair of Bluffton golfers won twice on Friday to reach the quarterfinals of the Carolinas Golf Association S.C. Amateur Match Play Championship.

A pair of Bluffton golfers won twice on Friday to reach the quarterfinals of the Carolinas Golf Association S.C. Amateur Match Play Championship.

The 42nd championship is being played on the par-72, 6,765-yard Ocean Winds Course at the Seabrook Island Club in Seabrook Island.

Stroke play qualifying medalist Brian Langley, a former USC Beaufort All-American and Bluffton resident, won both his matches and will face off Saturday against Andrew Novak. Second-seeded Alex Finke also advanced to the quarterfinals to face off against Tyler Lucas.

Fourth-seeded Alex Evans will face Bluffton's J.D. Hoft, seeded 28th. Also joining the quarterfinal matches is 11th-seeded Bradley Kauffman against 14th-seeded Bryce Howell.

Ridgeland's Christopher Finke won his opening match, 3 and 2, over Chandler Murray of Johns Island but fell, 4 and 3, to Lucas in the Round of 16.

Bluffton's Wesley Long fell to Robert Fisher of Johns Island, 2 up, in the Round of 32.

With an even-par 70 on Friday, Hilton Head Island High teacher and Colleton River Plantation resident Todd White moved into a tie for 18th, 10 shots off the lead, after the third round of the 39th Palmetto Amateur at the historic Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken.

Emmanuel Kountakis of Augusta, Ga., leads at 6-under 204.

Bluffton resident and International Junior Golf Academy product Ben Dietrich, who had been near the top of the leaderboard, tumbled to a tie for 39th at 217 after a 9-over 79 on Friday.

Hilton Head Christian graduate J.D. Lehman, now at Louisville, and Beaufort High golfer Josh Fickes missed the cut.

The final round is Saturday.
