Virginia wins NCAA title
— At Cary, N.C., Virginia beat UCLA 4-2 on penalty kicks after a scoreless tie to win the NCAA men’s soccer title Sunday. The Cavaliers won the College Cup when Riggs Lennon slipped a low shot past diving UCLA goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr. in the fifth round. The Cavaliers (14-6-3) won their seventh national title, their first since 2009. UCLA finished 14-5-5. ...

Crosby has the mumps
— Add Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby to the growing list of NHL players dealing with the mumps. The Penguins announced the diagnosis Sunday after holding the two-time MVP out of games Friday and Saturday. The NHL is dealing with a widespread outbreak of the virus, with players from Anaheim, Minnesota, the New York Rangers and the New Jersey Devils among those affected. ... At Toronto, James Reimer helped the Maple Leafs to a 4-3 shootout win over Los Angeles, shutting out the Kings in the tiebreaker. ... At Chicago, Brandon Saad scored with 7:03 left in the third to lead the Blackhawks to a 2-1 victory.
Lester set signing records
— Jon Lester set MLB records for largest signing bonus and biggest upfront payment with his $155 million, seven-year deal with the Chicago Cubs. The pitcher’s contract calls for a $30 million signing bonus, of which $15 million is due by April 1. The previous high for a signing bonus had been Vernon Wells’ $25.5 million under a $126 million, seven-year deal with Toronto that covered 2008-14 and was announced in December 2006. Lester’s upfront payment tops a mark set Dec. 8 by Cuban defector Yasmany Tomas with the Diamondbacks for $14 million.
