TRAIL RUNS ARE fun, tough and as challenging as you want to make it.
This year’s Last Chance 50K (31 miles) Trail Run on Dec. 13 at McClellanville State Park had 58 committed finishers.
From Daniel Kimball (Tega Cay), 41, finished first at 3:56:24. Brett Welborn (Mount Pleasant), 42, was second in 4:35:07. Jeff Sanders (Columbia), 46, was third in 4:41:04. North Carolina runner Michelle Fogle, 32, was first female and sixth overall in 5:04:40.
Erin-Kate Aleksak (Mount Pleasant), 35, was second female, eight overall in 5:05:49. North Carolina Masters runner Leigh Adams, 40, was ninth overall and the third female in 5:10:21.
The Lexington 3rd Annual Jingle Bell Run 5K had 97 runners, and the finish times were exciting as they revealed a number of talented runners aged 12-19. Janay Chisholm (Columbia), 19, was first in 21:48. She was followed in second by Zander Jeffcoat (Gilbert), 11, in 22:02. Third overall was Wayne Shuler (Irmo) at 22:15. The senior runners were Columbia residents Bob Knight, 73, and Rocky Soderberg, 72.
The Columbia’s Cold Winter’s Day 5K on Saturday had 441 finishers. Adam Freudenthal (Spantanburg), 25, led the field in 14:49. Virginia runner Graham Tribble, 26, was second in 15:20. Third place went to Eric Ashton, 46, at 16:08. He was also the first Masters finisher.
Ninth place went Shawanna White (West Columbia), 34, in a time of 18:17. She was the first female finisher. Brooke Grice (Columbia), 19, was 10 overall and the second female in 18:23.
Kenzie Riddle (Columbia), 30, placed 13th and the third female finisher in 18:40. Linn Hall (Columbia), 40, was first Masters female finisher in 20:03. She was 26th overall. Sarah Allers (Columbia), 54, finished 30th and was first Grand Masters Female in 20:30.
