Clemson commitment Darius Robinson understands the recruiting process and appreciates the position he is in.
But the standout student-athlete from Atlanta's Westlake High admits he will be glad when National Signing Day is over.
"The recruiting process was fun at the beginning, but after a while it does get a little tiring," said Robinson, who said he will sign with the Tigers today.
"I've just tried to stay humble the whole time, and I know how blessed I am to have all these opportunities."
Never miss a local story.
Robinson, a 5-foot-11, 169-pound cornerback, is the epitome of a student-athlete. He has a 3.4 GPA, scored 1,370 on the SAT and is rated as ESPN's 17th best corner nationally.
When Georgia Tech found itself with additional scholarships due to the early departure of four players to the NFL, the fallout was felt at Clemson. The Yellow Jackets focused on keeping Robinson home, while Auburn made enough of a late push that Robinson wavered on his commitment to Clemson.
The waffling did not last long as Robinson decided to stick with Clemson.
"You really have to look it at like a business," Robinson said. "You've got all these people who want to give you their input with fans, alumni and coaches. I feel you can't take any of it personal, and you're the one who has to make the decision on what's best.
"I've tried to look at it all as fun and games. It's good to hear that fans who root for a certain place want you to come to their school. It's a great position to be in."
Robinson's also in a great spot at Clemson, a program that is losing both its starting cornerbacks in addition to punt and kickoff return specialists C.J. Spiller and Jacoby Ford. Robinson served as a return man in high school and sees opportunities to compete for playing time as a freshman.
"You look at the depth charts, but I'm also looking for a big-time program that's known for sending players to the NFL - a school that turns out great players and great men," Robinson said.
Robinson is one of four defensive backs expected to sign with Clemson.
"I'm very confident," he said. "I'm a great cover guy and sure tackler and love playing corner. You've got to have that mentality. I just can't wait to get to college and showcase my ability."
