Three Columbia Blowfish players have been selected to participate in Tuesday’s Coastal Plain League All-Star Game in Forest City, N.C.
Center fielder Nick Orvin of The Citadel will start for the National team, while third baseman Chase Vergason and right fielder Branfy Arias will start for the American squad. Arias will replace the injured Jay Cannon.
The Blowfish on Wednesday night fell to Morehead City 5-3.
Taylor Black had three hits and an RBI to lead the Blowfish’s offensive attack. Orvin and Brison Celek each contributed two hits.
Justyn Carter and Luke Smierciak each had two hits and scored two runs to pace Morehead City.
Tyler Webb pitched seven innings for the Blowfish and took the loss. He gave up four runs — two earned — on eight hits while striking out four and walking four.
Rodney Quintero picked up the win for Morehead City. He gave up three runs on eight hits in seven innings.
The Blowfish fell to 14-16, while Morehead City improved to 22-16.
